Panel Discussion
We will present a new forum on the theme of women in Chinese cinema, which will feature an in-depth discussion with scholars and guests who have traveled from afar to discuss theories of Chinese cinema and women's roles in the creation, production, and production of films after the screening of Green Night(2023).
Workshop
Explore the diverse artistic practices of women and delve into collaborative models that drive creative projects. Engage in a series of dialogues that unveil the techniques and methodologies employed in creative collaborations. You will learn how they work across various art forms and how they collaborate to develop and deliver creative projects. This intimate workshop is designed to nurture your skills and expand your insights, offering new approaches to collaborative artistic endeavours.
Festival Gala
The screening of the Chinese silent film XI XIANG JI/Romance of the Western Chamber with live accompaniment – this year’s creative programme – will have its global premiere at the Festival Gala on the evening of 2 February 2024. Zhang Hua, a film history expert who is currently a professor at the School of Journalism and Communication of Southwest University and a visiting scholar at King’s College London, will deliver an introduction to the film on site.
Arrive on time for a drink reception with performers, speakers, curators, and all festival-goers!
Special film programmes
Our Special film programmes will screen a selection of new and canonical films curated around the focus of women's representation and cross-cultural communication throughout the entire festival.

Outdoor adventure: a lakeside walk with MINT and local guides
Friars Crag - a flat walk with our experienced hiking lead and local tour guide, going through the town and the beautiful Hope Park, and along the side of Derwentwater to one of the most spectacular Lakes views there is!
Gather at Alhambra Cinema at 13:55 and get ready for an outdoor adventure with festivalgoers
Competition
Throughout the entire film festival, you will encounter the most pioneering and new films in the Competition made by talented global Chinese film creators shortlisted by the Youth Film Selectors, the selection committee and the Jury.
Short Film Strand
Short Film Strand: Unconventional Strangers 异客 plus selected directors' Q&A available on Thursday, Friday and Sunday throughout the festival.
Opening Film
On the opening night of February 1, we not only prepared a drink reception for the festival audience who came all the way to our main venue Keswick Alhambra Cinema, but also planned three screenings in the main venue. We will screen the opening film: Millenium Mambo, Short Film Strand plus directors’ Q&S, and the Short Film Competition, to welcome all festival fans and friends!
