Dr XueLei Huang is a Senior Lecturer in Chinese Studies at The University of Edinburgh

Her current research focuses on sensory history in modern China. Her forthcoming book, Scents of China: A Modern History of Smell (Cambridge University Press), revisits modern Chinese history through the nose. She critically interrogates what has been an olfactory revolution in modern China, one that intimately interacted with other forms of socio-political revolution from the late Qing dynasty to the Mao era. Drawing on a wide array of archival material and literary texts, this study is an anatomy of how microscopic molecular processes of smelling ran deeply beneath everyday social interactions, bringing to light complex socio-corporeal dynamics underlying the untold stories of stinking ditches, artificial scents, sexual odours, and foul class enemies. She has also co-edited a volume (with Shengqing Wu) entitled Sensing China: Modern Transformations of Sensory Culture (Routledge, 2022). Bringing together twelve articles by internationally renowned scholars, this book explores the deeply rooted meanings that the senses have ingrained in culture and society of modern China.

Dorothy Wai Sim Lau is an Assistant Professor at the Academy of Film, Hong Kong Baptist University. Her research interests include celebrities, stardom, fandom, Asian cinema, digital culture, and screen culture. Her publications appear in journals such as positions: Asia critique, Continuum, Journal of Chinese Cinemas, Journal of Asian Cinema, and several edited volumes. She is also the author of Chinese Stardom in Participatory Cyberculture (2019) and Reorienting Chinese Stars in Global Polyphonic Networks: Voice, Ethnicity, Power (2021). Lau is writing her third monograph, Celebrity Activism and Philanthropy in Asia: Toward A Cosmopolitical Imaginary (under contract with Amsterdam University Press).

Patrick Adamson is a film scholar and editor who lectured in film studies at the University of St Andrews until summer 2022. Specialising in silent Westerns, early popular historical filmmaking, and universalist discourses in 1920s Hollywood, he has been published in journals including Film History and received awards for his research from the British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies (Best Doctoral Student Article 2020) and Société pour l'Enseignement et la Recherche du Cinéma Anglophone (Best PhD Dissertation on English-language Cinema Award 2021).

Giulia D'Aquila is a PhD Candidate in Chinese Studies at King's College Lau China Institute. Her current research focuses on film the role that Chinese contemporary films and film cross-cultural collaboration play in the international relations between the UK and China.

Kinnie is a London-based creative practitioner and moving image producer from China, Shanghai. Contributed creatively to the concept, production, coordination and style of various films, advertising campaigns, and special editorials.

Dino Zhang is an artist based in London and Shanghai. He studied fine art at the University of Edinburgh and Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. He is now a candidate for the MFA program at Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford. With mostly sculptures, videos and installations, his works question the relationship between history, culture and contemporary society under capitalism and authoritarianism. By reimagining alternative narrations of historical events, his works try to build a personal connection with historical characters.

Yuqi Wang was born in Shanghai, China in 2000. She has been living in the UK since she studied A Level. Yuqi Wang works in many directions, as a multimedia artist, filmmaker, performer and KOL( Key Opinion Leader). She has exhibited her work in Shanghai, Paris and London, including a solo exhibition at M50 Shanghai. Her Films have been screened at numerous independent film festivals and have been nominated for a series of awards.

Sha He, an independent filmmaker based in UK and China, is dedicated to drama and documentary storytelling, focusing on individual experience, predominantly female gaze， and is currently developing her first feature film.
