About the Mint Chinese Film Festival
The Mint Chinese Film Festival is the first Chinese Film Festival in Cumbria that will take place at the Keswick Alhambra Cinema, in Northwest England‘s Lake District in the UK, from the 3rd to the 5th of February 2023. This film festival is a joint initiative between Edinburgh University alumnus Carol Rennie (MSc and PhD in Chinese Literature), the owner and director of the Keswick Alhambra Cinema, and Yixiang Shirley Lin (2022 MSc graduate in Film, Exhibition and Curation), a film curator and the founder of UnicornScreening. It is likely to be the UK's first women-founded Chinese film festival.
Our first edition focuses on cross-cultural communication of Chinese cinema and women’s representation in specialised film. We hope to provide an occasion for spectators, filmmakers, critics and scholars to watch, discuss and award films. The three main parts of the festival include 1) the feature film screening and short films strand, the Audiences' Choice Award for the best short film and directors' Q&As, 2) the panel discussion/workshop, and 3) events and outdoor activities.
