Synopsis
A young girl comes to a mysterious village, she lives a quiet life as a priestess. Until a special ceremony, she is gradually pushed into the abyss.
Director’s bio
Yuwei Du, a female filmmaker, studied animation at RMIT University before transferring to NYFA to study filmmaking. She graduated from the Film Making department of the New York Film Academy in 2020.
During her study in NYFA, in addition to shooting her own short films, Yuwei also shot some Music videos and commercial as a DP. Because of her background in animation learning, Yuwei started experimenting with her own style early on in terms of vision and storyboards.
In terms of storytelling, after learning the film language in the Western, Yuwei has an urgent desire to tell the stories of Chinese women in her native culture. The Chinese culture shown in western films has deviated from the development of modern Chinese culture.
It is a pity that modern Chinese ordinary people and their stories are absent from the big screen for a long time. Therefore, as a young producer in China, Yuwei focuses on contemporary Chinese stories and shows the Chinese people in her eyes through the metaphorical style, like a dark fable. Hiding the truth in a ridiculous scenario.

Director‘s statement
When I was 23 years old, it happened to be the Me Too movement that took the world by storm. It was the first time I realized that women face tremendous oppression in my culture and society. At that moment, everything changed. Everyday conversations, TV shows, and media news all became like a thousand tiny needles pricking me. My parents will worry about me going out alone because I am a girl. My teacher told me not to major in science because girls can't do it. TV shows are always about women giving up their careers for love and family. I felt sad and angry, with a strong desire to express myself. I want to talk to women in the same situation. I want to talk to them and think about who we are and how we live our lives.
So I made this short film, my first short film. I turned the harsh world into this satirical fable, trying to make thousands of female shadows into the heroine. She suffered what we suffered, she gave voice to our cries, she expressed our anger, and in the end, she is headed for a future we are still looking for.
