Synopsis

A young Chinese warrior steals a sword from a famed swordsman and then escapes into a world of romantic adventure with a mysterious man in the frontier of the nation.

Director’s bio

Ang Lee is a Taiwanese filmmaker. Lee was educated in Taiwan and later in the United States. As a filmmaker Lee's work is known for its emotional charge and exploration of repressed, hidden emotions. Lee's early successes included Pushing Hands (1991), The Wedding Banquet (1993), and Eat Drink Man Woman (1994), which explored the relationships and conflicts between tradition and modernity, Eastern and Western.

During his career, he has received international critical and popular acclaim and a range of accolades. He also became the first non-white director to win the Best Director of Academy Awards in 2005.
