Synopsis

Returning home, under the strange circumstances, two strangers must share a hotel room for one night.

Director’s bio

Aglaja Filipović is born on 23rd January 1998 in Belgrade, Serbia. She graduated Film & TV directing at Academy Of Arts in Belgrade where she was chosen for student of generation. Her first short film “Puzzles” from first year screened at seven festival across Croatia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey and USA. Short documentary film “Landslide” from second year of studies screened at 11 festivals across the world (Bulgaria, Croatia, UK, Ukraine, Germany, USA, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Greece). Her film “You Know What I have Nightmares About” had its premiere at 39th VGIK Student Film Festival in Moscow, Russia. In final year of studies she made “Alone Together”, an award winning short film. In 2022 she founded independent production company Chedo Films and Fine Line Film Festival in Belgrade, Serbia.

Director‘s statement

"Alone Together" is drama with focus on inner conflict that two young people who left their country share. Level of detachment and loneliness which is present in both characters comes to showcase in untrue conversation that they share at the balcony. Their need for comfort and trust later changes the route of conversation. 

A lot of my friends left the country, and I tried asking myself the questions: What does one return to and does everything changes? People struggle with opening up and sharing their feelings, myself included. One of the questions I asked myself while I was writing this script is 'Would it be easier to open up to a stranger than to someone close to me?". With two lonely individuals sharing a room, they find comfort in sharing the burden they carry.
